FATED TO BE LOVED: MEGAN BOYLE

People often ask me where I see myself in 10 years. Geographically, I answer, New York City. But in terms of my existential axis, I see myself in The Realm of Megan Boyle. Megan Boyle is a 25 year old literary savant known for her contributions to Thought Catalog and Muumuu House. She's the co-director of "BEBE ZEVA" the documentary for MDMA films and is married to writer revolutionary Tao Lin. While she maintains a high profile in the literary community, her presence in the fashion world has yet to foster. I think it's only a matter of time before "P.F. CHANGS CHIC" becomes a staple theme for every cosmopolitan fashionista's closet. And if you don't understand that reference, you need to follow Megan on twitter promptly.

Megan enjoys touching the top of her head in photographs. It might have to do with her flexible arms- the product of doing yoga regularly. She recently emailed me a few pictures of herself wearing 'Bebe Zeva inspired' garments, such a veiled hat and pringles potato chip accessory. She's even wearing a Peter Pan collared twee dress and polka dot scarf, just like I referenced in this article for Thought Catalog called "How to be Twee"!

It's a tweem come true...

Here's my interpretation of what Megan Boyle might wear during the winter months of NYC.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Glasses- Tilly's
Scarf- Secondhand
Pea coat- Miss Sixty
Dress- Forever 21
Tights- Vera Wang
Loafers- Vintage

You'll notice that I etched some of Megan Boyle's iconic tattoos to my arm in liquid eyeliner. The Beat Happening rocket cat perfectly compliments her authentically twee aesthetic.

If Megan Boyle still hasn't won over your heart and soul, this Microsoft Paint drawing she made exclusively for Fated To Be Hated certainly will.

ESPADRILLES BY NINE WEST

Today I'm summoning the spring time with my Espadrille heels by Nine West! Here in Las Vegas the weather is already warm and breezy, and these wedges are perfect for romping around at a picnic in the park. The platform is made of cork and straw, so they're light as a feather and match almost everything. Can't wait to show off these babies all summer long!

I've been in New York since Wednesday. Lived, learned, cried my eyes into swollen oblivion and laughed them back open again. Rapped my throat hoarse and danced my toes raw. Rode the train, crossed the bridge, kissed the concrete, made love to the graffiti. I'm home.

NEW YORK ANNOUNCEMENT

Hey everyone! Some of you may have already heard that I'm heading to New York on Wednesday the 16th for an entire week in the big apple. The official BEBE ZEVA documentary, filmed and produced by lit, art, and performance icons Tao Lin and Megan Boyle, will be premiered at the Soho House in Manhattan on March 20th. The documentary and venue have been described as follows:

Legendary Children, an event series that highlights the work of emerging filmmakers, announces the premiere of the documentary Bebe Zeva at the Soho House on Sunday, March 20. The documentary, which revolves around the eponymous 17-year-old fashion blogger, marks the acclaimed novelist’s first foray into filmmaking with his wife Megan Boyle.

Working with a minimalist, low-budget aesthetic (Lin shot the film with his Macbook Pro) Bebe Zeva charts one night with the young blogger, as she talks with Lin and Boyle about her life while showing them around Las Vegas. The simple, utilitarian storytelling set against the absurd, over-the-top backdrop of Vegas calls to mind the similar tone of Lin’s books, such as Shoplifting From American Apparel and Richard Yates. Lin’s body of work (two novels, a novella, a short story collection and two books of poetry) have earned him a cult following and pegged him as one of the most influential young writers working today.Bebe Zeva provides an opportunity to see his literary aesthetic translated into the world of cinema.

Zeva is something of a fashion blogger prodigy–by age 17 she has already been featured in Seventeen and Teen Vogue and was recently a panelist at the WWD Magic trade show. Her online following–across Twitter, Tumblr, Formspring, and her personal blog “Fated to be Hated”–is enormous and enthusiastic.

If you're interested in viewing the documentary, pre-order it at http://mdmafilms.org!

NOW PRESENTING THE OUTFIT I WORE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FILM

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Scarf- Anthropologie
Velvet blazer- Ralph Lauren
Dress- American Apparel
Kitten pumps- Vintage Salvatore Ferragamo

Looking back on the outfit, I can't understand why I wasn't wearing a hat and thigh-highs. Brown floppy hat and navy tights would have worked perfectly. UGH. YA LIVE AND YA LEARN.

These are my shoes. They are filthy with whipped cream. Please refer to the documentary for more details.

Lastly, if you can provide any advice on what I should see, where I should dine, and how to get the best bargains when shopping, please feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email! I also need YOUR help on picking out the right outfits since this is my first foray into the city. I have no idea what to expect and am going to need a great deal of support from my readers! You're the entire reason that so many incredible things have been happening to me lately. The positivity and encouragement is what keeps me driven to pursue my goals. AND on that note- Happy Birthday to my baby blog, which officially turns 5 months old today. :)

BUT GEEK IS CHIC!

Hey yall! Hitting up the school books in style this week. Seems like 'scholar' is an underrated theme in fashion... possibly because style icons value aesthetics over intellect? I'm an adamant advocate of fusing both! You can't be a successful fashionista without applying knowledge to your craft.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Bowler hat- Saks Fifth Avenue
Glasses- Tilly's
Plaid button-up - Ralph Lauren
Cardigan- Secondhand
Belt- Secondhand
Shorts- Guess
Socks- Forever 21
Loafers- Etienne Aigner

P.S. This look in inspired by Swedish blogger beauty Amanda Brohman. If you don't already follow her... now's your chance to start! Her influences have seriously spiced up my wardrobe. ;)

Happy Thursday!

FATED TO BE LOVED: ADRI LAW

There's always that one girl who's older than you, prettier than you, savvier and wittier and more worldly than you. The girl is an amazon- she knows what she's doing. She's a presence and a force. She's the ruler by which you measure yourself, the standard for your idea of perfection. You have yours and I have mine. Meet Adri Law.

photos by niko the ikon

Adri Law is a 20 year old photographer, designer, rebel spirit, and style icon from Los Angeles. She's presently the poster child for 'cyber-goth resurrected', and yes, has inspired 99% of my goth, witch, and grunge outfits.

Best of all, she's the fully grown manifestation of Miranda Sanchez from everybody's favorite childhood TV show, Lizzie McGuire. (Don't even TRY to deny it... they're pretty much wearing the same t-shirt for Christ's sake.)

When I first met Adri in real life, she was wearing all black and picked out a Hebrew letter sweater-clip from a rack at Savers. Despite it being the greatest secondhand accessory I had ever seen at a thrift store, she gave it to me. Since then I've made it my priority to pay homage to Adri's 'personal brand' every time I put it on.

MY ADRI LOOK:

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Sunglasses- 80s Purple (www.80spurple.com)
Sweater- Vintage
Shirt- Secondhand
Clip- Secondhand
Brooch- Sahara Hotel gift shop
Skirt- Vintage
Socks- Forever 21
Creepers- Classified

Adri is fated to be loved because her art isn't limited to her creation; she lets it overlap into the realm of her lifestyle. She's consistent about her fashion sense and, like me, never leaves the house without executing a theme. Style isn't limited to what you wear- it's what you relay through your tastes, visions, and actions that makes you original. And the essence that Adri has emitted is nothing short of iconic.
