LA UPDATE

I've been wearing the same pair of pastel shorts for over 24 hours and chunks of my hair are knotted into oblivion from sleeping in one too many unfavorable positions on the couch. My throat is sore from talking in pitches octaves higher than what I'm used to and my mascara is sparse on my eyelashes, heavy on my cheeks. And life is swell. There's no time to sleep or take breaks. Here in LA we've been hopping from one thrift store to the next, visiting every available abstract abode, trying to photograph as much of it as we can without forgetting that experiencing life is more important than recording it. The weather is cool and the palm trees are tall and everyone knows what they're doing but doesn't know they're doing it. I could go on for hours about what I've seen and felt among these people...

Head over to THE COBRASHOP and sprinkle some BBZV glitter and glam all over your wardrobe by purchasing some of the vintage pieces I had the pleasure of modeling!

LOS ANGELES

Hey everyone, I'm in LA! I arrived Thursday morning to compose an article on my friend Kandice, whose presence in the music industry is quickly building in intensity. Yesterday I had the pleasure of accompanying her into the recording studio. Wore this outfit en route to Hollywood... comfortable enough for a 5 hour car ride, but tough enough to maintain my image!

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM;
Felt cowboy hat- Secondhand, Urban Jungle
Jean jackets- Levis
T-shirt- "Bone Idol" by Threadless
Leggings- I Wear Sin, www.iwearsin.com
Doc Martens- Buffalo Exchange

This is what I've looked like every day for the past 3 days.

QUI N'AIME PAS LA MER?

Who doesn't love the sea? I've been enamored by the scents and sounds of sea salts and sea shells since my infancy. You might not know this, but I was born right on Miami Beach! It's probably in my destiny to move back some day. One can only be without the ocean for so long. And on the topic of oceans- have you guys heard the album Cape Dory by Tennis? It's my second all-time favorite record, next to Room on Fire by The Strokes. The whole album is a documentation of the band's experience at sea, set to lo-fi melodies overflowing with nautical sincerity. I proudly admit to skipping around my room with "Seafarer" on blast while wearing this very maritime get-up! Red sky at night, sailor's delight.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Beret- Saks Fifth Avenue
Sunglasses- 80s Purple, www.80spurple.com
Cardigan- Gap
Bejeweled anchor dress- Victoria's Secret PINK
Thigh highs- Drugstore, DIY
Flats- Target

My title is (of course) in French, because the aesthetic I'm trying to convey is both Parisian and aquatic. Accents like my black ribbon and red frill assert that I'm young and romantic, while pieces like the beret and cardigan effervesce a 1950s beatnik charm. Altogether, the effect is French lolita looking for love at the naval base. Seafarer, you and I belong together!

5 WAYS TO WEAR A BETSEY JOHNSON DRESS

It's safe to say that most girls would probably look at this Betsey Johnson dress and think, "what a wonderful frock to wear at next year's Winter Formal!" And they'd be dead right- it is a wonderful frock. But why limit yourself to a school dance for which you'd wear such a lovely little thing? What a lot of men and women alike don't realize is that just because something's fancy doesn't make it formal! And even better yet- just because something's formal doesn't mean it can't be worn casually!! Using just one teal Betsey Johnson tulle dress and an array of carefully chosen accessories, I crafted five completely separate looks that ANYONE can imitate with the right amount of fashion fodder.

Not every garment must be worn in the way it was originally intended. And who knows what the designers' original intentions were anyway? Perhaps Betsey specifically visioned this dress being worn to a cosmic roller disco. So next time you're getting all dolled up for a special event- don't just wear the dress, own it! Because any creative conglomeration of styles you put the pizazz into is YOURS TRULY.
