WHITE WINTER

Me wearing a skirt in January should not be news to you... I'm big on scrapping conventions and taking risks year round. In my defense, it's 70 degrees today. And I don't own white pants. Maybe that's something I should invest in since I can't depend on weather so unpredictably pleasant that it's disturbing for the rest of my life. I'm wearing another knit sweater from da FABULOUS STAINS, and this one has a hood. Check it out here, $20!

I'm not a pearl person. Really. Something about a strand of pearls seems so conservative and square to me. I also have a terrible habit of assuming all pearl necklaces are really just cheap costume jewelry, so it leaves the impression of being tacky. Which makes no sense at all, because I don't believe in spending thousands (or even hundreds) of dollars on jewelry, and my pearls are fake, and I'm a huge fan of tacky everything. Sometimes I can't understand myself! Perhaps my distaste for pearls comes from me just not liking the way they look and absolutely nothing to do with how much they cost. All that said, I'm fond of pearls on a gold chain. Just not in a strand. Maybe this is just a phase and next year I'll be so into pearl strands that I track the tag "pearl" on Tumblr and reblog millions of pictures of them and eventually start a fan club on Facebook. PEOPLE CHANGE, believe it.

FOR LOVE I COME

Since today's post is small, I'm gonna put all my emphasis on this one lil thing: THE FABULOUS STAINS. If you haven't already heard, my friends and I created a blog slash online store slash lifestyle brand (jk) called "The Fabulous Stains" (sound familiar?) We talk about street style trends, model muses, and films that inspire our style. And on the side, we hand select vintage and secondhand garments and accessories to sell in our shop on Etsy! This blazer is one of those prized pieces. And it's selling for $25 right here. Shop til ya drop! Unless you can shop without dropping. That would be ideal.

Pumps - Ralph Lauren

Added a little pep to my mostly neutral prep ensemble with a bold blue blazer and brown accessories.

PETTI PEARL

Wow, hate to get all uber-relevant-pop-culture-reference on you guys, but doesn't this outfit seem kinda Lana Del Rey? Sorry. I killed it. I DESTROYED whatever dignity this angora sweater once had by comparing it to a presence that has already oversaturated every corner of the internet, my blog officially included. Now that I've apologized, I need to ask you a personal question. Do you think this collar would have looked better if accented by a flower crown? And should I have sat on a throne instead of posing with this predictable beige background in my bedroom? Yeah, y'all. This red loveseat isn't foyer furniture - it's the pride and joy of my sleeping quarters. Love it or hate it. It's still my lil precious. *kisses the velvet* LDR is probably somebody's lil precious, too. Maybe all my fans are her fans. Small world, Lana! Let's collab on floral wreaths.

A few keywords for my outfit that save me from having to explain what inspired it: lolita, cake, pearls, fuzz, angel, angel pastel schoolgirl flower child, angel hair pasta, Angel Leiberman (if you don't know who that is, GET OUT, if you do, leave a comment below and I will send you a personal message thanking you for being a wonderful human being who I want to eat a perfectly good piece of pizza Miranda with), pale, sweet, extremely soft.

TOFFEE TWEED

Wearing another corduroy newsboy cap with a sweater dress, NO pants, and an oversized blazer. But wait. Why are blazers called 'blazers'? I know I could find out in 180 seconds or less by opening up a new tab and typing 'blazer' into wikipedia, but I think prompting a dialogue about fashion terminology is much more fun than me reading about sport coats on the computer. So I'm gonna pretend I have really limited Internet access and all websites are actually blocked from my browser except Blogger and Flickr so the only access I have to trivial information is through asking my readers in the opening paragraph of every blog post. (Feelin a lil meta today!) About the outfit - it's called "Toffee Tweed" because (duh) my color scheme is toffee and my jacket is tweed. But talking about my clothes seems kinda boring and I'm extremely hungry so naturally I only want to talk about toffee. I actually think it's really gross, but since it's a dessert, I like it by virtue of it being a dessert. I think I'll wear a Reese's Cup outfit tomorrow. Much more fitting.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Newsboy cap - 'vintage,' by principle of being in my closet for ~10 years
Blazer - Ralph Lauren
Sweater dress - YES STYLE, www.yesstyle.com
Clog heels - Qupid, www.lulus.com

Never owned a sweater dress until now! I wore this one with tights and ankle boots on the plane flight to Israel, which was something like 14 hours long. But with all the traveling by bus and eating lunch and dinner and eventually breakfast and getting acquainted with the Kibbutz we stayed in, I was actually wearing this sweater for over 48 hours. So we're really close knit. Get it? Close "knit"? Because it's a sweater?? This is my cue to walk away and chainsaw my head off.

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE

So I guess since I'm wearing this bad ass "vagrant hoodie," I'm under obligation to give you an inspirational pep talk about "living every day like it's your last." Well, I don't believe in living every day like it's my last. If it was my last day on Earth, I'd be sobbing all over the place, immobilized with the pain of my impending departure from consciousness (omg lol I only wrote that so you guys could all laugh at it + copy and paste it into your "pretentious things I found on the internet.txt" file.) I had a nightmare last night about being trapped in a car with my mom and sister, facing our certain deaths as extraterrestrial beings pummeled us with radioactive slime bullets. It was a really sad dream, we were all crying. Horrible. I'm never reading a cyberpunk forum before bed AGAIN!!!!!!

American Blood Tank - ONCE YOUTH, http://www.onceyouth.com/americanblood

Ii'm pretty sure that if I saw someone else wearing slashed leggings and a bloody American flag tank top, I'd think they were all cool and scary (how redundant of me, cool and scary are the same thing, right? Ya. ) But when I see myself wearing slashed leggings and a bloody American flag tank top, I think "aww, overcompensation for the pipsqueak little baby I really am." The best defense mechanism is a really intimidating wardrobe, people!!!! You'll always be better off looking like you're the one who does the ass-kicking instead of looking like you're asking to get your ass kicked.

MINTIMALIST

Two things I rarely do: wear a newsboy cap "the right way," not wear jewelry. But today I went there. Into the void. A detachable collar will save you from having to find the right strand of pearls to match your mint and lavender knit sweater, which WOW deserves it's own moment of silence. I think bowing your head down and quietly praying to a Fashion God is starting to become a Fated To Be Hated tradition. And if this is your first time givin' an article of my clothing "the sacred treatment" then HEY, you're not fully immersed in this whole blog experience, buddy.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

So, the color scheme speaks for itself (in a nearly muted beige whisper, just like Monday) with a splash of purple in a sea of mint foam. As for the newsboy cap? I always wear mine backwards to imitate a beret, but I figured I had nothing to lose wearing it 'correctly,' and at any rate, the only reason I'd been abstaining from wearing newsboy caps altogether was 1) they're SO Alyson Stoner in Cheaper By the Dozen 2003 and 2) nobody else wears them so it makes me uncomfortable. First of all, 2003 is the second most PERFECT year to draw inspiration from stylistically (only second to Winning London 2001) and second of all, since when do I need permission from my peers to wear something I wanna wear? So what if no one wears newsboy caps except dumb old me? It's my party and I'll be dumb if I want to! I realize I'm ranting here, so I'll stop (sorry!) But you guys get the picture. Don't wait for a style to hit Forever 21 before you get into it. Like it now? Wear it now. Carpe diem.

BEIGE AND BALLY

Deep down I feel like my sock-and-loafer combination is more appropriate for a Sunday brunch at a sidewalk cafe than for, well, really any occasion to debut a Bally bag. But as much as I'd like to wear fancy heels and purses all the time, sometimes a girl's gotta lounge. And quality lounging entails a ruffly pair of socks and fluffy loafers. I'm wearing ALL BEIGE because that's my personality right now. Beige. Kinda boring. Crusing through life, aloof. Indifferent to all things except my snooze button, with whom I've recently fallen madly in love with. And he likes me back, FYI. We're like, this close to becoming Facebook official.

WINTER PLUM

Not every outfit of mine has a distinct theme; sometimes I just put a sweater on and try to look cozy and seasonal. I wore my new native batwing knit to coffee with a professor last month (my bangs have since grown and my middle-part has evolved into a side swoop) with my latest pair of lace-up clog boots for walking. Or butt kicking. I think I walk and kick butt equally frequently but I've never measured so maybe that's a broad assumption. Anyway, this winter in Vegas has been unbelievably mild. Like, 60 degrees in January. If that's not unbelievable, I don't know what is. So I have the liberty of wearing skirts and shorts without freezing to the core. As long as I've got a baggy sweater like this one on top.

Bet you didn't think lace up boots counted as clogs... ha! Wrong. They totally do. And now I have my first pair from (duh) Clog Outlet. I'm actually typing all this out with one hand because the other has a champagne glass in it, as I'm toasting to a fruitful, cloggy future for myself and friends. I got y'all covered!! Clog it up! (Jordan, if you're reading this, that should be your motto for life.)
