HIGH ROLLER

Well, this crop top seems a little ironic for someone in my current financial standing. I'm coming out to the world as broke. But taking ownership by committing to the hustle -- this cash print top from Imomoi is my entry-level uniform. By the end of the year I want to ~own a car~ since that seems pretty symbolic of independence/adulthood. So I better get to work... fortunately I'm already in overalls and a baseball cap. ;)

STRIPE AND SPARKLE

I found this incredible "digi floral print" jacket on Romwe last year and it has not lost its novelty on me yet. I'm especially into the way the turquoise roses complement the glittering sequin perwinkle on my Vesst onesie. It helps that the mod stripes downplay the outdated blue-green "Atlantis vibe" because, as I say literally every single day of my life like a broken record, it is not 2012 anymore. Sometimes I even find this cold hard truth impossible to accept.

BEACHY KEEN

I'm wearing so much of my favorite stuff in these photos it *hurts my brain* to think that I am so #blessed to have what prized possessions I own. This Living Royal skirt has seen some of my wilder nights -- I first debuted it at a club rager with a bunch of out of town friends... and didn't take it off for over 24 hours of partying, working, and school. Since it's actually a super comfy pair of white shorts with pink vinyl attached by zipper, it's a really practical piece.

My crop top is a special treasure. Madeline (from Jean Greige) bought it for me downtown during her trip to Vegas in 2012. We had it airbrushed in hot pink and purple to match our beachy dolphin vibes. Almost two years later, I'm still feeling it.

BAROQUETTE

I had this idea about using my daily horoscope to guide my thought process while writing a post that describes my #ootd. I know a lot of my readers don't take astrology seriously, and to be perfectly real... even I'm not sure that I can entirely vest my trust in an unverifiable science. But assigning a cosmic narrative to my day's events makes life 1) more interesting and 2) more organized. Seriously. Think about astrology as a mystical system that compartmentalizes people and then structures their calendars with predictions and guidance. This makes survival SO much easier to process. So, even if it does seem foolish as an objective measurement, at least it does a service to the psyche.

About clothes: not sure what inspired me to pair a "fiercely baroque" sweatshirt with transparent camo pants, but that's what came out of my brain and I obviously didn't fight the urge. Both 'camo print' and 'rococo gold' seem like tried 2012 tropes so correct me for walking around like a bag of chips in 2014 when I'm clearly repping the wrong year and ruining my own reputation. Breaking news: I do actually care what other people think and my self-esteem is severely contingent on whatever those thoughts are.

WIN THE DAY

This post is sponsored by Clearasil however all opinions are my own! :)

The opportunity to partner with Clearasil in incorporating their products into my daily routine couldn't have come at a better time. It's the beginning the of year and I'm working on a new version of myself. In order to maximize my self-confidence, I want healthy skin and a healthy schedule - starting the day with a refreshing superfruit scrub keeps me on track for 24 hour radiance and natural beauty. Check out all of Clearasil's Daily Clear products online by clicking here! #WinTheDay

Other tips to stay productive:

- ALWAYS have a playlist of your favorite music going. This keeps your energy high, stress low, and mind open.

- Open a window! If you're working indoors, you need as much oxygen as you can get to inspire fresh ideas.

- Keep a schedule. When the day's events are visually laid out in front you, it makes processing each one so much easier.

- Take a nap. If you can find 30 minutes in the day to rest, seize the opportunity! Sleep restores memory, regulates mood, and does wonders for the face. ;)

- Drink water. Seems obvious, but you might be underestimating how dehydrated you actually are and that can seriously slow you down. Carry a glass thermos of water with you everywhere - plastic bottles contain phtalates and other icky toxins we don't want polluting our bodies.

- Arrange something exciting to look forward to at the end of the day. Even something as simple as a Candy Crush Saga date with your iPhone and a pint of ice cream works. Anticipating a fun event motivates your work ethic and (best of all) reminds you that every single day is worth celebrating.

P.S. If you're interested in trying Clearasil Daily Clear products yourself, check out their mail-in rebate program so you can win the day for free!

Happy 2014, everyone!

FAST TRACK

Since moving to LA with only ~2 suitcases of clothes to cycle through, I've learned to make practical use of a few pieces that I majorly took for granted back in Vegas. I've had these velvet track pants for over six months, but only started wearing them as frequently as I do now (which is once a week at the very least) in November, when my options were severely limited to what I could fit in luggage. I never really appreciated having such an expansive wardrobe back at home -- I never even wondered what it would be like to have to eventually wear an item of clothing multiple times out of necessity and not ironic fun. Now, having a closet that I can zip neatly into a suitcase means having to get *seriously* creative with unfamiliar limits. Fortunately the sweatshirt is new (c/o OMG Fashion) although I promised myself I wouldn't go into flowery detail about how "luxurious" the quilted fabric feels against my bare skin in wintertime because sadly no one ACTUALLY cares about that shit. Not even me.

A motivational New Years prep talk for myself: I want to be more earnest about my pursuit of a fulfilling life. That means expecting others to be more honest and communicative with me only after I am confident that I can offer them the same respect. You get what you give, and so far I don't feel like I've given as much as I am capable of. I am often selfish and greedy, lazy, fearful, self-sabotaging, and unmotivated. Finally I'm learning to accept that despite these shortcomings, I deserve secure relationships and a rewarding career. I'm not better or worse than anyone, no more or less deserving of intimacy and love. Everyone is equal. And there is no one in this world who should have to look out for their goals while guiding mine because I'm supposedly too special to rule my world myself. I'm an adult now, 20 years old. And with the reluctance of my inner begrudging teenager, I independently have to look out for my well-being without expecting to be 'saved' by others. Only I am responsible for my own happiness, and 100% in charge of the 50% role I play in my pursuit of love.

Happy 2014, enjoy the commemorative 2013 throwback beanie. It's hard to part with the past.
